Robando unfolds as a powerful dance-theatre journey that explores agency in the face of destruction, the sacrifices bound to womanhood and motherhood, and the transformative power of forgiveness.  Set within a fantastical underworld, the work follows a fierce crew of pirate women as they navigate the weight of guilt and grief on their quest to recover the bones of those they've lost. Guided yet judged by Eternal Mother, their journey becomes a ritual of reckoning, resilience, and reclamation.  Through mythical imagery, Robando dives into the shadowed depths of the heart to reveal what must be surrendered -and what can be reborn.

Robando explores themes of agency, social injustice, religion, displacement and the critical observation of the health, wealth and work of women throughout history. While the political climate of our time is reflected in this piece, I am also inspired by the history of the conquerers who destroyed and took so much from my ancestors and the women who were erased from history books. I used a very detailed Laban effort/action to creatively play with movement and blocking to keep us all connected in the fantastical world.
