Luz del Abismo first premiered as a 15-minute concert dance piece in honor of Bill T. Jones at the UK Gaines Center for the Humanities Bale Boone Symposium. When re-commissioned by Ajayi Dance for Borderlight, I expanded the movement vocabulary, concepts and characters into a full-length work. 

Luz del Abismo is a piece honoring sisterhood, motherhood, and the "wild", “feral” woman.  I am deeply impacted by the work of Clarissa Pinkola Estés Ph.D. Her creative approach to archetypal analysis sends my imagination reeling and I find myself spirited in movement when digesting her ideas. Luz del Abismo takes us on a hero’s journey in overcoming the “shadowman” and rallies us all to be bold and fearless in protecting the most sacred parts of self, our loved ones and the generations to come.
